Committee approves invoices, trip survey in short meeting

WARREN — Quaboag Regional School Committee bids farewell to 17-year member Andrew Schwenker as cell phone ban shows early success. Principal John DiOrio reported "almost zero" violations of the district's new student cell phone policy, calling it a relief for students who no longer feel pressure to check their phones constantly. Business and Finance Director Nikki Gonzalez told members the district received an $11,000 fuel-adjustment bill from a bus contractor and reported the senior class snack shack, run unpermitted for 15 years, is now licensed after a Board of Health inspection.
The committee unanimously approved $708.86 in Jostens invoices and $3,978 in printer lease invoices, and voted to survey families on a 2029 international trip to the Azores, Belize or Japan. The district was also awarded a $50,000 Innovation Pathway grant. Schwenker, who served a decade as chairman, joked it was his first chance in 17 years to leave a meeting in time for Monday Night Football.
