Select Board Extends Building Inspector Through July
Select Board · Meeting of June 4, 2026
Warren Select Board gives embattled building inspector just two months, not a full year. Town Administrator James Ferrara and board members said the complaints against Building Commissioner William R. Cantell were not about competency but about what one member called "substandard performance as a public servant," citing three written and six verbal complaints in the past year.
The board reappointed Cantell only through July 31, 2026, pending a performance review, after the board's attorney cautioned against discussing personnel matters in open session. Separately, the board awarded a $75,000 Main Street stair-replacement contract to A. Martin and Sons Construction, well under a $150,000 to $180,000 estimate, and approved $11,402.40 in fire department reserve transfers after Fire Chief Adam McCoy said a worn pump bearing on Engine 3 narrowly avoided a "$30,000 replacement." The board also approved three one-day liquor licenses for Lost Towns Brewing's August concert series and a three-year, $12,219.19 VADAR Systems software renewal.
